We were all smiles at the airport!
We we thrilled to use our passports - many for the first time!
Getting to London was the goal of Christmas Eve, though through the miracle of time travel we arrived on Christmas Day. The flight was surprisingly quick, just 9 short hours made easier by the personal headrest and movies to watch. I finally saw We’re the Millers and while funny, I understand why it didn’t make a bigger splash at the box office. Did you know that wine is complimentary on international flights? Uh, my smart husband did! Thanks for tip Todd!
We saw this little thing and thought a lot about the possible uses of recycled gum...
Arriving was quick and our Mercedes bus awaited us to take us to our first air bnb. Those New York City cabbies have nothing on our English driver. At the end of the ride I was looking for the bathroom and quick. Maybe he was efficient and quick but those corners were too much for my queasy tummy.
Arrival at our apartment was a cool cultural experience. Staying in someone’s house sure helps you understand how Londoners really live! Small rooms and tight spaces, but so much more than a hotel room. We are pleased!
After settling in we were all yawning but it was only 4pm, or 1600 as we are trying to adjust to the change in time. And so we discovered two things about London: 1. The sun sets at 3:56pm. So it’s dark and we are in a new city and we are tired. So...UberEats sounded like the right plan. 2. Even though UberEats says a restaurant is open on Christmas Day, doesn’t mean it is. After getting ourselves all worked up for Chinese food for our Christmas Feast, the “placed order” was never confirmed and thus we concluded that the restaurant was closed.
We’ve encountered this dilemma before as we tend to travel a lot during this time of year. Our solution in London was much better than McDonald’s in Florida. We found pizza that was open so we ordered for delivery of said pizza while we watched none other than Harry Potter on TV.
Tomorrow we meet up with our nieces who have already been here a week. We shall ride the train, see all the touristy spots, and hopefully get our bodies adjested to the time change! Currently trying to stay up past 7pm or 1900.
