Benvenuto a Roma

We arrived in Rome this morning and checked into our darling apartment just before noon. We dropped out bags and headed to lunch. Isn’t our place cute?

The girls are loving the loft and we are loving the view from our sweet apartment. Great little street we are on. The pizza place downstairs is amazing!!! $6 pizzas tonight.

But back to our day. We started out in Paris and got a cab at 4am...yes. 4am after New Years Eve. Wow it was early. We almost took home a French boy who was walking down the street with his other drunk friends. He started to climb into our cab but his friends pulled him back out. Grandma was gonna take him home with us.

Two short hours on the EasyJet and we landed in Rome. Found a bus for 6 euros and walked about a half mile to our Air BnB. Lunch was at a little place around the corner from our apartment that had pretty amazing Spaghetti al Pesto and Emily tried lasagna (this makes theee lasagnas in three different countries. Guess which one was best 😉?).

With our tummies filled up we were ready to hit the town and see what was going on in this place. We saw the Colosseum on the map and set the GPS and headed in that direction. The funny thing about Rome is that you’re just walking along and then you happen upon some huge relic of a building or a statute or fountain. I can’t believe how many places we just stumbled upon today as we journeyed to the main attraction. Here are a few -

Those were of course just a few. Then we came across this cool area of the city that was still being excavated. It was really amazing to see the mosaic flooring still being uncovered. Such history here.

I tried to take a panoramic photo so hopefully that turned out for you. Off to the Colosseum we went! And guess what? It’s closed on New Years Day... guys I’m feeling like someone else should have planned this vacation right now. We jumped on the metro and stopped off at Trevi Fountain on our way back home. Wow. Saw about thirty gelato places along the way. No joke.

Geez that fountain is huge! We had walked a few miles by this time and Grams and Pops and maybe the twins and Todd and me were all ready for a little R&R - so we left Rachelle and Adrianna in this awesome square that we stumbled upon and took our bottle of wine home. Of yes, there was a stop for wine when the downpour of rain unexpectedly came. We found another wino shop and grabbed a second bottle before walking anther half mile home. Total steps for the day - 14,280. This Barbera was a treat after all those steps and the 4am wake up call.
After drinking half the bottle we decided food should be added to this mix so Todd and I stumbled downstairs and walked a few doors down to a little restaurant with $6 pizzas. What!!! In Rome?!?!? Yes!! Everything was great except the veggie. That needed more flavor.  I think those photos got lost with the wine. When in Rome!!!

It’s 7pm guys and we’ve been up all day. We’ve nearly kidnapped a French guy, Frank a full bottle of wine, ate three pizzas, set an alarm for 7:30am so we can hit the Vatican before everyone else wakes up, and we T-I-R-E-D! Until tomorrow!
